Arriving to the crease in the final over of the CSK innings, former skipper MS Dhoni launched Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya for three consecutive sixes to take his side past the 200-run mark.
In reply MI got off to a sensational start in the chase with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan putting up an opening partnership of 70 runs off 43 balls. Matheesha Pathirana then ended the stand with Kishan's wicket and then dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for a duck in the eighth over.
MI were then given a boost thanks to a 60-run stand between Rohit and Tilak Varma which had got them back on track. It was Pathirana who got the breakthrough again, dismissing the latter in the 14th over and CSK were back on top. Mumbai never recovered from that, Pathirana finished his four-wicket haul by dismissing Romario Shepherd in the 18th over. Rohit ended up scoring a century, finishing unbeaten on 105 off 63 balls but MI lost by 20 runs.
