Fast bowler James Pattinson has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes Series following yet another injury in his short career. The 23-year-old Pattinson, who is one of the fastest bowlers of the world at present, has been diagnosed with an early stage low back stress fracture.

Cricket Australia Team Doctor has advised the fast bowler to miss the remaining three tests of the Ashes. Dr.Brukner has suggested a rehabilitation program with an aim to have Pattinson fit for the Australian summer.

Pattinson, has so far played in 12 Tests taking 47 wickets at an impressive strike rate of 40.07. However, this promising express fast bowler has been injury prone ever since he has made his Test Debut in December 2011. So far, Pattinson has injured himself thrice – a foot injury against India in 2011/12, a rib injury against South Africa in 2012 and now a back injury.

The 23-year-old will travel with the squad to Sussex and then for the Third Test at Manchester before flying back to Australia. Pattinson had taken 7 wickets in the two Ashes Tests with a best of 3/69 at Trent Bridge.

Cricket Australia Website quotes Team Performance General Manager Pat Howard as: "While we are obviously disappointed for James, the selectors have five bowlers fit and ready perform in England, providing them with many options.

“It is also important to note that several players have been performing for Australia A and are available to be called up at any stage if the NSP required them. We’ve been well planned to have as many bowlers fit and available in the lead-up to this important series and while this set-back for James is disappointing, we are confident we have good fast bowling depth.”

Cricket Australia may not name a replacement for Pattinson as they had three extra fast bowlers in Mitchell Starc, Jackson Bird and James Faulkner warming up the bench during the Second Test at Lord’s.
