Former New Zealand Great – Martin Crowe has been diagnosed with Cancer according to a newspaper report. The 50-year-old Crowe led New Zealand in the early 90s, and is particularly remembered for trying out innovative things such as opening the bowling with an off spinner Dipak Patel in the 1992 World Cup.

Former New Zealand Great – Martin Crowe has been diagnosed with Cancer according to a newspaper report. The 50-year-old Crowe led New Zealand in the early 90s, and is particularly remembered for trying out innovative things such as opening the bowling with an off spinner Dipak Patel in the 1992 World Cup.

Martin Crowe as per credible reports is suffering from Lymphoma – a tumour that affects the immunity system. The stage of the cancer is yet to be known and so is the case with the treatment.

Martin CroweA statement issued by Crowe’s Manager Louise Henderson as per several newspaper sources reads out as "Understandably the family have a number of issues to confront over the next couple of weeks, the diagnosis is very new, the family is still in shock and obviously dealing with the understanding that life as they know it for the unforeseeable future is different.”

Martin Crowe is perhaps the last greatest cricketer to have played for New Zealand if one excludes Daniel Vettori and Stephen Fleming to some extent. Crowe had played in 77 Tests scoring 5444 runs with 17 hundreds. He has played in 143 ODIs to score 4704 runs with 4 centuries.
