South Africa have scored 61 without loss after dismissing their opponent for 326 on the day 3 of the first Test match against Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong. The equation is very simple for the visitors as they still have a small deficit of 17 runs to score before they can start thinking about any positive result out of this match.

For South Africa, openers Dean Elgar and Stiaan van Zyl have countered the new ball well and they are well settled on 28 and 33 respectively. South Africa’s batsmen were guilty of not showing much patient but they need to stick this time around and visitors also need to counter the weather too as rain can also affect remaining two days as well.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh resumed the day’s play at 179 for 4 with their two batting pillars, Shakib and Rahim on crease. But soon after play began, Rahim was trapped lbw off Steyn for 28. Then, Litton Das and Shakib produced the partnership of the match. Litton Das played gracefully and mainly emphasized on hitting the ball gently in the gaps. He hit seven boundaries in his 102-balls 50-runs inning. This partnership ensured that Bangladesh would go past the South Africa’s first inning score for the first time in cricket history. Harmer broke the 82-runs partnership between Shakib and Litton Das when Duminy caught the former for 47 off Harmer. Mohammad Shahid played a little cameo and counter attacked the visitors for his 25 which was graced with four fours and a six. Litton and Shahid added 34 runs for the seventh wickets and these small partnership low down the order helped Bangladesh immensely in terms of stretching their first inning lead to 79-runs. Stiaan van Zyl caught Shahid off Philander at 311, the remaining Bangladesh’s batsmen couldn’t provide any resistant. Soon after that, Litton Das was dismissed in a unusual manner when wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock caught him in front of the stumps off Harmer. There was a discussion going on there whether can catch the ball in front of the stumps but third umpire given that out and suggested that keeper can catch in front once the batsman have made the movement. Dale Steyn took the wickets of Taijul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman to bundle out Bangladesh for 326 runs.

Steyn and Harmer took three wickets each, Philander got two and Stiaan van Zyl and Dean Elgar got one wicket a piece.
